Blue and brown mesh straps add modern elegance to the Classic Collection
Timeless design meets contemporary elegance
MONDAINE introduces two new 40mm timepieces to their iconic Classic Collection, reinforcing the brand’s commitment to minimalist design and Swiss precision. These latest additions are distinguished by their stainless-steel mesh straps in refined IP Brown and IP Blue finishes, elevating the timeless design with an elegant twist.
Contrasting colours and signature details
Encased in a brushed stainless-steel case with a polished top ring, both models merge durability with effortless sophistication. The classic white dial, featuring bold black hour and minute markers and MONDAINE’s iconic red seconds hand, creates a striking contrast against the IP Brown and IP Blue mesh straps. These refined tones not only add depth and modern flair but also introduce an elegant colour contrast that enhances the overall visual impact. Both additions feature BackLight, a patented Mondaine technology, enabling the time to be read even in the dark. Equipped with a practical quick-release system, the mesh straps can be easily changed, offering added versatility for everyday wear.
The launch of two distinct and elegant colourways enhances the Classic Collection, proving once again that MONDAINE continues to redefine iconic design while remaining true to its heritage. These timepieces are designed for individuals who value classic style and Swiss craftsmanship.
The origins of the Classic Collection
The Classic Collection dates to 1986 when MONDAINE launched their first collection that made the design of the Swiss Railways clock available as a wristwatch.
The Swiss Railways clock was originally developed in 1944 by Hans Hilfiker, an engineer for the Swiss Federal Railways. His design marked a significant shift away from the elaborate clock faces of the Art Nouveau era to a minimalist approach of a white background, hour and minute markers represented by simple black rectangles, geometric hands, and finally, a prominent red second hand with a red disc. This disc, inspired by the trowel of the dispatchers who handled trains at railway stations, allowed the clock to be read precisely to the second, even from a distance.
It was most likely the unrivalled simplicity and high legibility that turned the clock face of the Swiss Railways clock into an iconic design. MONDAINE’s Classic Collection first made this design available for all to wear as a wristwatch and has continued to follow the principle of keeping to clear, minimalist aesthetics. The Classic Collection has been extended and reinterpreted in many different colours and materials and remains to be one of the most popular MONDAINE Collections to date.
