New Arrivals in the Classic Collection
Timeless design & modern elegance
MONDAINE reinterprets their popular Classic Collection with the launch of five stunning new timepieces. Introducing contemporary features like sunray-brushed dials and refined strap and case finishes, the brand creates a fusion of timeless design and modern elegance.
A modern twist
The five new timepieces keep the iconic watch face of the original while introducing modern design elements such as sunray brushed dials and a mix of brushed and polished materials creating a contemporary look. Three timepieces feature a 30 mm dial size while two offer a 40 mm one matching them with either a white matte or cool gray sunray brushed dial. Like their namesake indicates sunray brushed dials add a subtle texture and appear to change depending on the light adding sheen to the classic design. This feature is defined by extremely thin, nearly invisible lines radiating from the center of the dial.
The mix of polished and brushed stainless steel in the 3-link strap of four of the watches adds another modern twist to the design. The straps feature a polished stainless steel middle link and outer links made of brushed stainless steel creating an intriguing mix of material treatments.
One of the new additions offers another interpretation by adding a warm tone to the classic design with a polished stainless-steel case with IP 1N14 gold-plating and a matching clasp on the black vegan leather strap creating an interesting colour contrast to the matte white dial.
All five Classic watches have been enhanced with two new features, their dials are now protected by highly scratch resistant sapphire glass, and they are water resistant up to 5 meters offering greater ease of wear and durability.
The origins of the Classic Collection
The Classic Collection dates to 1986 when MONDAINE launched their first collection that made the design of the Swiss Railways clock available as a wristwatch.
The Swiss Railways clock was originally developed in 1944 by Hans Hilfiker, an engineer for the Swiss Federal Railways. His design marked a significant shift away from the elaborate clock faces of the Art Nouveau era to a minimalist approach of a white background, hour and minute markers represented by simple black rectangles, geometric hands, and finally, a prominent red second hand with a red disc. This disc, inspired by the trowel of the dispatchers who handled trains at railway stations, allowed the clock to be read precisely to the second, even from a distance.
It was most likely the unrivalled simplicity and high legibility that turned the clock face of the Swiss Railways clock into an iconic design. MONDAINE’s Classic Collection first made this design available for all to wear as a wristwatch and has continued to follow the principle of keeping to clear, minimalist aesthetics. Since its first launch in 1986 the Collection has been extended and reinterpreted in many different colours and materials and remains to be one of the most popular MONDAINE Collections to date.
The five new Classic Collection watches introduce more sheen and a greater mix of colours and materials immediately capturing attention and offering a more elegant interpretation of a classic icon. Make a statement of contemporary style with a perfect fusion of classic and modern design.
